The impact if non-league football volunteers

Published on 28 March 2025 at 12:05

Non-league football relies heavily on volunteers as there is not much money coming into clubs and they use things like sponsors to bring in money.

‘10 million adults volunteered in sport and physical activity, including non-league football, in the year preceding the Active Lives Adult Survey’

Volunteer roles range from bar staff, grounds man, socials media people and photographers.

Ashley stone is the social media manager for Redcar athletic football club, I spend most match days with Ashley as in my spare time I take photos for the club.

I asked him a few things about what inspired him to join the club as a volunteer

He said:

“I was motivated to volunteer for Redcar thorough my love for social media and journalism, when I started my journalism degree, I was also posting news about local non-league football on social media, and Redcar picked me up from there”

Volunteers most of the time keep the club running on pure enjoyment as it’s something there passionate about and have a true interest in the club, it’s good to see the same faces every match and they are the atmosphere.

Volunteers are literarily fans who give up their spare time to help their favourite club and I think that sone of the most important things,

Ashley spoke to me about his typical day at the club specifically on match days.

Listen bellow to find out what his day is like.
