Since the 2022 women’s euros, women’s football has started to grow and hasn’t stopped.
Most of the women teams don’t play in the same stadium as the men with arsenal women playing only 11 of their matches in the emirates.
Moving on to nonleague teams Redcar athletic ladies have only played 2 of their home games on the men’s pitch the other games took place on the grass outside of the stadium.
I spoke to Scarborough women’s player Keira about her experience with playing football and being a women’s football fan
Keira said: “it’s lovely to see that the younger generation now have teams they can join and players to look up too. When I was younger there wasn’t any girls’ teams, and I was playing in a boys’ team. That was hard as because I was a girl, they didn’t give me the ball. “
Women’s England wrote an article about how nearly 1500 teams where registered after the women won the euros, this is so beneficial for women football as its final getting the recognition it needs.
I also asked Keira about the changes she would like to see in the sport
She said:
‘I would love to see a change in how the game is overlooked, and especially changes to the pay and prize money across the whole women’s game. I would like to see var inputted into most Wsl games rather than just games at Wembley etc’
This shows that there are still differences in the games and that changes need to be made to make the sport equal
“Love to see a change to the pitches too as some of the pitches are horrific conditions. For grassroots I would like to see more teams everywhere and hopefully some referees who show they want to be there.”
After speaking to Keira, it shown how much of an effect the women winning the euros has and it also make people wonder what effect the euros in Switzerland this year will have.
